CHILDREN AND DOGS:
To state the obvious - a Shih Tzu puppy isn't a toy.
Always be sure to supervise small children with a Shih Tzu puppy. A small Shih Tzu puppy shouldn't be left with a small child unattended.
I suggest that children be taught to play with a puppy on its level (the
floor or ground)and not them carry the puppy around where it could easily be
accidentally dropped. A puppy can be hard to hold when squirming about and
could fall to the ground and be injured. Remember the floor and ground
is the safest place for a small Shih Tzu puppy. Your Shih Tzu puppy should NOT
to be left on a chair, couch or
bed. They don't have the sense or fear of heights and will fall, and could sustain
severe injury or death.
Shih Tzu are known for their great temperaments, however don’t allow a child to interfere with them while feeding, and be careful your child doesn’t interact with the puppy in a way the puppy would interpret as threatening or provoking. The Shih Tzu is one of the most loving breeds, but we simply can't assume any dog to be 100% passive.
